A Teacher that Impacted Me

Sep 15, 2020

I feel called to share this video for 2 reasons.

1. Because teachers are amazing!
Particularly the ones who genuinely impact our lives, motivate us to stretch into more of who we really are and how we’re called to be. In these times when so many of us are seeking guidance and grounding, the teachers who have touched our lives might be living inside of us and able to offer us something.

2. Because climate migration is and will be shaping the world and this teacher was inviting organizers to start addressing large scale global climate migration 14 years ago.

This short clip is from a program a few weeks ago honoring Finn Voldtofte, hosted by Beehive Productions. I was asked to say a few things about my relationship with him.

I’d love to hear about teachers or people who have impacted your life and practice.

Also… here are the 3 practices I name in the video and later in the program Amy Lenzo adds a forth one of Finn’s.

  1. Stay in inquiry… Or at least the ambition to stay in inquiry.
  2. Be willing to stretch beyond what I know into what I do not know.
  3. Do what I do for the sake of the whole, not for the sake of myself.
  4. Speak what you sense, see, feel, and think and allow yourself to be corrected by the field.
