How are you practicing social media (and regular media) distancing?
I continue to hear the principle from Racial Equity Institute — Maintain hope in the face of the brutal facts. It’s important for me to be informed about and facing the brutal facts. And then to maintain hope, I have to also step away from the information and be present in the moment. Making space for me to feel all the feelings the brutal facts invoke. And then move through them. And space to be grateful, to pray, to be deeply present with the moment (not thoughts about the future), to celebrate the good things that are happening right now personally and in our collective, to imagine more ways and to actually practice being the world we want, to attend to the basics of living life…
I am listening to my body when consuming media. As soon as I start to feel the tightening in my chest, I’m stepping away (not always effective, but the practice I’m trying). Information will keep me informed about the brutal facts and possible ways to address it, it will give me insight into the wave of emotions I’m feeling and may soon feel. However, it will not keep me emotionally healthy and resilient during this time. I have to put in the work for my own regulation and regulating media intake is key!
I’m a Virgo! This is what’s working for me. What’s your practice?
PLEASE STAY HOME as much as you are able. And PLEASE care for yourself and others as much as you are able. ❤️
